Normandiny, a Calvados and Cider Cocktail

Normandiny, a Calvados and Cider Cocktail

Discover the smooth, sweet flavours of Normandy in this Calvados cocktail, perfect as an aperitif – and so easy to make.

Looking for a cocktail recipe that will shake things up a bit? Sylvain Audouard, head bartender at Grand Hôtel Cabourg – MGallery, suggests this blend of Norman flavours as a pre-dinner drink.

Calvados is a spirit full of savoir-faire, with more than 400 years of history, evoking vast orchards of apple trees in bloom and the buzz of honeybees... This embodiment of Normandy pairs perfectly with apple or pear cider, and adds a note of originality to modern cocktails. As the weather turns cooler, be sure to stock your bar with autumn fruit liqueurs and juices for a seasonal cocktail that's 100% French.

Ingredients (1 glass)

  • 40 ml Calvados
  • 60 ml pear juice
  • 1 tsp apple jelly, preferably from Normandy
  • 1 drizzle of caramel d’Isigny syrup
  • Apple cider or perry (pear cider)
  • Morello cherries and mint leaves as garnish

Method

In a cocktail shaker, combine the Calvados, pear juice, apple jelly and caramel syrup. Shake well and pour into a champagne flute. Top off the glass with your preference of apple cider or perry, then garnish with a pitted morello cherry and several mint leaves.
