An art deco setting for award-wining regional cuisine

  • Traditional menu

  • Home cooking and seasonal produce

  • Private mezzanine area and a cosy bar

  • Superb art deco architecture

Le Vieil Abreuvoir is set in a spectacular 19th-century townhouse with striking art deco architecture. But lying behind the decorative motifs and columns of this central Roubaix restaurant is genuine northern hospitality, and a staff attentive to both local customers and passing visitors who come to sample the inventive menu.

Our celebrated chef calls on a rich, regional gastronomy, using local produce to conjure up a seasonal menu that's both innovative and true to its roots. From the signature burger to regional cheeses and prawn croquettes, our homemade dishes draw on solid culinary traditions to create a delicious experience for diners. With market menus offered at lunchtime and on weekday evenings, this authentic brasserie is a sure bet for locals in search of something new.

True to its name, Le Vieil Abreuvoir offers drinks to match the high standard of its cuisine, such as wines from Madrague, an area of Côtes de Provence renowned for organic wines. Our bar-restaurant can host business lunches, family meals, romantic diners and parties for friends, choose between the main dining room, the private mezzanine or the intimate bar for the ambience that suits you best.

A well-known chef serving traditional and seasonal cuisine in the centre of Roubaix

The story of our name

Until the 19th century, Roubaix was a small village in Lille countryside, with a water trough for horses in Rue Vieil Abreuvoir, at that time just a simple rural lane. Taking this name is our way of celebrating an era that saw the birth of our art deco bar-restaurant and laid down the roots of our constantly evolving cuisine.

(Translated by Google) The restaurant really needs to position itself: either it is a low-end canteen in a magnificent location or the service matches the setting and the food served. Only 6 people were in the restaurant during my lunch. Dirty wine glasses, when you ask to change you seem to be annoying the waiter. Bottle of white wine placed at the table like a common Coke, no seal to keep the bottle cold. We are not made to taste the wine before, in fact we do not even open it in front of us, a guarantee of quality normally. Afterwards we stay 15 minutes without glasses and therefore without the possibility of drinking a glass of wine. When the glasses arrive the dishes follow so no small aperitif is possible. No bread although we have a dish with sauce. Coffee from one of the guests who arrived when everyone had finished their dessert and tea (I remind you that we are a table of 4 and that there was just a couple during our visit, no excuses possible). The worst part of all this is that the waiter made no secret of making us understand that we were annoying or too demanding when we are really simple and unpretentious people, pure northerners who love to chat, etc. I would like to that someone respond to my comment seeing that the sales department always thanks good reviews but never responds to criticisms made by customers!

(Translated by Google) Well, we're not going to lie, it's not the most amazing meal I've had in a hotel. Behind a menu with promising titles hide some... meh dishes. The filet de mignon burger was a good idea but in the end the result was not very tasty despite the cheese in it.
Dessert: Chocolate and hazelnut brownie was more of a very dry fondant, which must have been made 3/4 days before. Accompanied by a Grand Marnier custard in name only.
There are days like that. Let's hope it wasn't the right one and was an occasional false note.
Attentive service, almost too much (ok I'm nitpicking)
