Refined cuisine and elegant setting embodying the Camargue in central Arles

  • Camargue specialities

  • Local, organic and seasonal produce

  • Décor styled by Christian Lacroix

  • In the historic quarter of Arles

When visiting Arles, stop by for a gourmet historic break at Lou Marquès restaurant, set in an old convent dating from the 17th century. In a welcoming setting designed by Christian Lacroix, you'll discover local flavours in our dishes, from confit of bull beef to rice dried by the sun and wind of the Camargue.

Named after the pioneering Camargue settler, Marquis Folco de Baroncelli, our restaurant showcases this beautiful region, firstly in its colourful, contemporary decoration, full of historic references to Roman times and to the Camargue's cowboys. Secondly, and most importantly, for its refined and balanced cuisine full of Provençal flavours.

Savour our signature recipe, langoustine risotto served with organic rice grown in the Camargue. Our desserts will enliven your taste buds too, with such delights as candied orange in a Grand Marnier crêpe or caramel ice cream flavoured with local fleur de sel.

Rosemary, sage and mint, the aromatic herbs from the garden in the old cloister, perfectly complement our delectable dishes. Our chef, Joseph Kriz, also uses regional producers like the Mas du Trident cheese factory, known for giving new life to the traditional Tomme cheeses of Arles.

Lou Marquès restaurant has long been a favourite haunt of passing visitors and local couples. Like them, you can take a seat in the warm ambience of our welcoming designer bar, or relax on the pretty, streetside terrace and sample a Madame Lacroix Spritz  our recreation of her favourite cocktail, or a beer from Gardians Brewery.

Lustre Lou Marques - Arles

A famous couturier

Christian Lacroix was a regular in our restaurant and also created its distinctive décor. In 2014, he redesigned Lou Marquès, giving it a typically Camargue theme, and while preserving the character of this historic building, introduced a noticeably contemporary style.
