Visited Brasserie Molitor for their Sunday brunch. The building itself is stunning, an iconic art deco structure with a view over the pool that feels unique in Paris. However, the interior design choices of the hotel and restaurant are puzzling. The graffiti-style tags and industrial concrete elements feel jarring and completely disconnected from the building’s heritage. It feels more like a throwback to 2005 than a celebration of art deco, and it doesn’t resonate in 2024, especially for a five-star establishment. We were seated right next to the buffet, which wasn’t ideal. If you go, definitely ask for one of the limited tables facing the pool or on the terrace like we did, those spots are clearly more pleasant. The food was decent for a buffet brunch, which is becoming increasingly rare, but the sweet selection was underwhelming. What really let the experience down was the service. It was well below expectations for a five-star hotel: understaffed, with waiters who didn’t seem familiar with the menu. I ordered a dirty chai and received what seemed to be a matcha with coffee, when I asked, the waitress had to ask me what a chai even was. That kind of confusion shouldn’t happen when you’re offering specialty drinks. To make matters worse, we waited nearly 15 minutes for a mediocre coffee. A proper barista is clearly needed.
