Indulge in a timeless experience in the restored Grand Lobby of the iconic Raffles Singapore. The grandeur of floor-to-ceiling Victorian pillars, bathed in soft daylight streaming through the skylight... It is a truly refined and unique destination for refreshments.
(Translated by Google) It's been about 2 years since I had afternoon tea at Raffles Hotel. Until a few years ago, I used to research Afternoon/High tea in hotels in Singapore and often went there, and I remember this place being the best quality, so I came back. Most of the customers are Western tourists and Japanese women. There was live harp music and the atmosphere was nice, but since there were only two of us, we were seated in an aisle. The afternoon tea set was brought to our table without a word, before the welcome drink or the drink we ordered. It's common in Singapore for food to be brought before drinks, but it was a shame. Later, someone else came to explain the contents of the food. You can only choose one type of drink. You can't have refills of tea, but they add hot water to the pot. This is also common in Singapore. The scones were served later, so I imagined they would be freshly baked, but they were not warm at all. The food is as shown in the photo. I think this is a five-star afternoon tea in Singapore. As someone who goes to afternoon tea in Tokyo, I felt that the quality, taste, quantity, appearance, number and freedom of drink options, and service were all lacking. The level of effort is completely different. I had the same impression two years ago, and since then I've finished my nun activities in Singapore, but my impression this time is the same. It was about SGD120 per person, including tax and service charge.
⸻ A Disappointing Experience at Raffles Singapore Afternoon Tea Afternoon tea at Raffles Singapore was, quite frankly, a huge letdown. Given its iconic status, we expected charm, refinement, and quality. Instead, we were served what felt like a rushed, soulless tourist conveyor belt. The sandwiches were astonishingly poor – think school lunchbox, not luxury afternoon tea. Dry, stale bread with plastic-like American burger cheese? It was almost insulting. We raised concerns not once, not twice, but three times. By the third round of sad sandwiches, we gave up entirely. The service was lackluster, clearly overwhelmed, and unbothered. Staff seemed more focused on turning over tables than creating any kind of experience. Tea was never refreshed, even when asked, and no one seemed remotely enthusiastic about being there. Hoping to salvage the visit, we tried the Long Bar – but it felt just as tired. Overcrowded, overrated, and ultimately just another tourist trap trading on its name rather than delivering any real substance or charm. If you’re looking for a refined afternoon tea, look elsewhere. This was truly one of the worst high tea experiences we’ve ever had.
