The most fitting way to summarize this place is to say it's...fine. It's a fancy-enough restaurant to cater to the business lunch crowd and perhaps your usual litany of unadventurous hotel guests, though it does at least gallantly try to spice things up by attempting to introduce a few local flavors into their modernist-cuisine staples. Service is somewhat normal, not as attentive as a place like this would warrant, especially given that we were probably like one of two tables at any given point of our meal. We got set lunches; take note that these are not eligible for any other discounts, including Accor Plus. The set lunches are admittedly of pretty good value for the amount served, though I would say that generally the sides are both better executed and more creative than the mains. Liked: - Togarashi grilled broccoli. Revelatory. Crunchy and full of roasted grilled goodness but also very juicy to bite into. The piquant tart sauce is a great complement to the grilled broccoli-ness of it all. If all broc dishes were made like this I'd be flatulating enough to get me from here to Mars. (This is a compliment.) - Uni and citrus tiger prawn linguine. Plump prawns with luscious salmon roe and a very silky sauce. A very safe choice for a fusion pasta dish but competently executed. - Grilled octopus. A little chewy, but the accompanying pepper emulsion is great, and so is the mango slaw. - Mantou har cheong kai chicken bun. Juicy fried chicken thigh, fluffy bun. What's not to like. Ambivalent - Squid. Perhaps this is an unfair assessment but I felt a little ill from eating this - in terms of how greasy the batter was. The aioli helped cut through that but it was still a bit hard to stomach, and the squid itself could have been seasoned a bit more thoroughly. - Pan-roasted Salmon. Dry, flaky, overcooked, underseasoned and an all around bore of a dish. - Black angus flank steak with buah keluak sauce. I appreciate the attempt at injecting some nyonya novelty but the steak was just not prepared very well. Hardly any sear on the surface, thick grey band for what was supposed to be a medium rare steak. Also underseasoned. Very unappetizing and uninspiring. - Ondeh cake. Way too sweet, and the ala carte size is woefully tiny for the price.
